Loneliness is such a strange feeling. It feels like a piece of you is missing, a piece you will never find. Loneliness is that feeling when you desperately
long for the love of others, for their company, but you know that you will never receive
the love you demand from others. You hide in your room and watch others live side-by-side, while you conceal your existence and pray that one day you will find a person to talk to.
When you finally find that person, you get a painful feeling when reality hits you with the fact that you were talking to yourself this entire time. You were living in your own little world and no one would ever care to listen to you. You do not know how to respond, so silence echoes in your mind. It is excruciating, unbearable and it becomes difficult to breathe when you cannot find an escape. Loneliness leaves you alone with your thoughts. Why won't people love me? In the end, you cannot picture or even imagine a life being loved by others. Loneliness is a dark place that leads you to the conclusion that you are hopeless; you are the problem. You simply cannot be loved.
When you convince yourself of this lie, you begin to hate yourself. So what? Keep on hating yourself? No. Crawl out of the dark and extend your hand to others. You go and love others. People may slap your hands away, as you offer your help, your company. People may even reject you entirely. If you only show love to those who reciprocate, who will reach their hand to the people who are suffering the most? Love your neighbor. Love everyone, no matter who they are, what they have done and whether or not they feed your heart.
Loving people is so hard, but it starts with drawing attention away from yourself and to the needs of others. Look for people. Stand up. Know that in your loneliness, you are not alone. I'm not alone.
